Liliana Ayalde is the Ambassador of the United States to Brazil. She is a Career Minister, and was previously serving as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, covering Cuba, Central America and the Caribbean.

Prior to this, Ambassador Ayalde served as the Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). She served as United States Ambassador to Paraguay from 2008 to 2011. Between 2005 and 2008, she was Mission Director for USAID/Colombia, responsible for the development assistance portfolio under Plan Colombia. In 1997, she was assigned as Mission Director for USAID/Bolivia. In 1995, she was named Director for the Office of Central American Affairs in USAID's Latin America and Caribbean Bureau during the Central American peace process. Ambassador Ayalde had served as Deputy Director for that office since 1993.

Ambassador Ayalde started her Foreign Service career in 1982 in Bangladesh, and has accumulated more than 28 years of experience in diplomacy and development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University in International Studies, and a Masters of Arts degree in International Public Health from Tulane University.
